Launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in 2014, the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is dedicated to Moroccan modern art and the ambition to make Rabat an artistic and cultural city.
With an area of 6813 m2, this first museum dedicated to modern art in Morocco presents the creations of Moroccan artists in the visual arts of the 20th and 21st century.
Located in the heart of Rabat, the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art strengthens the network of cultural institutions and museums in the capital of Morocco, which was named “Moroccan Capital of Culture” and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012. In addition, this museum also strengthens the network of cultural institutions throughout the Kingdom, which has more than 50 public and private museums.
The architecture of the museum :
The architecture of the Mohamed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art was born out of a desire to integrate into the urban fabric of Rabat. It is inspired by the architecture of the capital, rich with its art deco buildings decorated with traditional motifs as well as its medina and its historical sites that give it a specific identity and rich in cultural diversity.
The mission of the museum:
The museum was created with the aim of preserving, raising awareness and disseminating Moroccan creation on a national and international level. It will also encourage the creativity of Moroccan artists as well as future generations of artists through various exhibitions of Moroccan and international artists such as Eugene Delacroix.
Tickets prices for the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art:
- Entrance fee for adults over 18: 40 dhs
- Entrance fee for young people over 12 years old: 20 dhs
- Entrance fee for children: 5 dhs
The museum is free every Friday for nationals and foreign residents in Morocco
